The Citadel is excited to announce that we are partnering with internationally renowned Why Not Theatre for the 2018/19 Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program. We are thrilled to welcome award-winning director Ravi Jain as the new Director of the Citadel/Banff program. Ravi and his company, Why Not Theatre, will curate the 2018/19 program, bringing an international focus to our teaching and training. The 2018/19 Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program participants will star in a reimagining of Shakespeare's The Tempest, directed by Josette Bushell-Mingo, Artistic Director of Tyst Teater, Sweden’s National Deaf Theatre.
The Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program, part of The Citadel’s Academy, offers an advanced creative development program to enrich the performance skills of established theatre professionals. Now in its 10th year, this program, conceived by former Artistic Director, Bob Baker, provides a unique professional development opportunity to Canadian theatre artists.
The Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program is designed to embrace and enhance the artist’s strengths while encouraging the exploration of new concepts. The curriculum of the Program comprises a five-week course of master classes in scene study, movement/dance, singing, voice and speech, stage combat, classical text, improvisation and script analysis by a faculty of some of Canada’s leading theatre artists. The residency for the program is divided between Banff (four weeks) and Edmonton (one week).
The Citadel Theatre is a registered charitable organization and is recognized as a leader in Canadian theatre. We produce work of the highest quality, premiere new plays, develop the skills of professional artists, invest in youth and families and contribute to the quality of life in the Edmonton community.
The Citadel’s Academy features creative development programs for professional theatre actors, directors, and playwrights, as well as emerging professionals.
