Dramaturgy Lab 2021
Citadel Theatre Call for Submissions:
The Citadel Theatre is excited to announce the creation of a new program focusing on Dramaturgy for Large Scale Productions for Edmonton theatre artists. This professional development program has been created as part of the Citadel’s commitment to helping to support professional development opportunities in Edmonton’s theatre community and our commitment to New Play Development.
The Citadel Theatre offers a Lab-style program to support artists whose experience levels span from emerging to established, who would like to build their dramaturgical knowledge and skills with a particular focus on dramaturgy of plays being produced in large spaces. We encourage artists who self identify as dramaturgs already, but also artists who have emerging experience as dramaturgs or artists who are established in another area of theatre and who would like to cross over into a new area of learning to apply. Experience with new plays in some form or other however, is critical.
This is a unique program that will bring up to 10 Lab participants into lectures, discussions and exercises led by dramaturgs from across Alberta and the country. This program will take place between March and June 2021, with a session taking place approximately every 2 weeks. Each session will be between 90 - 120 minutes. The program will take place over Zoom.
There will be no fee to participate in this training program. Artists are expected to attend every session.
We invite applications from Edmonton artists who would like to explore and build skills in Large Scale Production Dramaturgy. They should be a maximum of four pages, and should include:
- A biography or résumé;
- A letter outlining the applicant’s interest in dramaturgy. For example:
- Sharing of some specific experiences the applicant has already had in new play development;
- Skills the applicant hopes to augment during the training;
- Projects the applicant hopes to apply this knowledge to in the future.
HEALTH & SAFETY
Citadel Theatre commits to providing a welcoming and safe experience for all artists, including a clear workplace harassment policy. In situations where cultural safety and knowledge is needed as part of facilitating conversation, Citadel commits to working with third-party affinity counsel. Citadel Theatre understands the unique situation that our community is in with COVID-19 and public health orders such as physical distancing, hand hygiene, masking, and gathering limits. We commit to working with artists to ensure a safe workspace when meeting and working at the Citadel, as well as seeking alternative or online/distanced options whenever possible.
