For 20 years we've brought the magic of Charles Dickens' holiday classic to life, and this year we are so proud to bring A Christmas Carol from our stage to your home on streaming video. In this brand new re-imagining of David van Belle's gorgeous adaptation, enjoy the characters, songs, magic, and story you love in an abridged version filmed in our very own Rice Theatre.
Packed with your favourite classic Christmas tunes, this adaptation of the beloved tale of a miserly old man who is invited to change his ways by the Ghosts of Christmas, will carry you away into the magical era of films like It's a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th Street.

The Citadel Theatre followed all health and safety protocols set out by Alberta Health Services while filming this production. All musical numbers were safely pre-recorded and lip-synced to during filming.

...it’s a tribute to the Citadel, and the ingenuity of our theatre artists, that they translated their skills to another medium so we wouldn’t be Carol-less in a far from merry season. They’ve made beautiful work of it.
The nostalgic songs weave beautifully through David van Belle's dynamic script, which brims with both poignant reflections and droll one-liners.

Since beginning his professional career in his hometown of Edmonton in 1976, Ted has gone on to great success as one of Canada's foremost theatre artists. He has acted and directed for every major theatre in the country. He is a founding member of Soulpepper Theatre and co-founder, with his wife Diana Bentley, of The Coal Mine Theatre. Citadel audiences have loved him in Fire, and have seen two shows he's written; the international hit 2 Pianos, 4 Hands (with Richard Greenblatt), and Evangeline. He is the recipient of 6 Dora Mavor Moore Awards, as well as a Gemini, a Sterling, a Merritt and a Chalmers Award. All these achievements notwithstanding, Diana, Theo, Rosie, and Henry are his greatest joys by far!

Ruth’s television credits include the reoccurring role of Lisa Dalton in Coronation Street. She feels very lucky to be part of this wonderful show again, especially in such strange times.

Julien was to perform in The Garneau Block at the Citadel, but it was sadly postponed due to the pandemic. He has appeared in the Citadel’s production of A Christmas Carol a total of 15 times, as both Bob Cratchit and Ebenezer Scrooge, and relishes the opportunity of tackling yet another role in this fantastic seasonal production. He hopes that the spirit of generosity and forgiveness finds its way into everyone’s heart this Christmas.

Vance is thrilled to be returning for this all new A Christmas Carol. Other favourite performances include: Hadestown (Citadel); Lend Me A Tenor, and Jesus Christ Superstar (Mayfield); Chicago (Neptune); The Black Rider (Ahmanson Theater, Los Angeles); as well as national productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Les Misérable, and CATS. In New York: Connecticut Yankee (Encores!); and an original cast member of the Tony Award winning revival of Cabaret, later performing the starring role of Emcee on Broadway, as well as Japan and South Korea.

Patricia is an award winning multidisciplinary artist; at present she works as a performer, director, and educator. Her work has taken her to theatres throughout Canada, wo she has worked on over thirty productions. Citadel credits include: A Christmas Carol, The Silver Arrow: The Untold Story of Robin Hood, Shakespeare In Love (RMTC co-pro), and the Horizon Lab. She has recently been recognized with the Sterling Award for Outstanding Performance in a Leading Role - Comedy. She is currently a part of the Citadel’s RBC Horizon Emerging Artists Program.

Belinda is an actor and playwright based in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). She has had the great good fortune of working with many Edmonton theatre companies in the before-times, and is currently happily writing and indulging her newfound love of birds volunteering for WILDNorth wildlife rescue. She is very excited for next spring's relaunch of the Citadel's COVID-postponed productions The Garneau Block (which she wrote), and Peter Pan Goes Wrong (in which she will play a tall fairy) - fingers crossed for all being well! She is so happy and thankful to be returning to this beautiful show in its new incarnation, and wishes everyone a safe and joyful holiday.

Daniela Fernandez (she/her) is an emerging Latinx theatre artist based in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton). She first joined the youth ensemble of the Citadel Theatre’s beloved production in 2017, and then appeared as Tiny Tim in 2018 and 2019. Sasha pursues her music education through the RCM Certificate Program in piano and voice. She loves to perform for any audience whether it is recital, open mic, or music festival. John is no stranger to Citadel audiences. Before the pandemic, he was in Every Brilliant Thing, and was on the verge of opening Candide with the Edmonton Opera. Remember March? Since then, he has worked as a home renovator, a carpenter and is still working as a distiller with Lone Pine Distilling. Edmonton is home with his wife Annie, two cats and three dogs all of whom have performed with the Edmonton Symphony. (Okay, not the cats!)

Recently, Gianna appeared in the Citadel Theatre’s production of Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley as Anne de Bourgh, as well as A Christmas Carol. Jeff is an actor, improvisor, and musician living on the Coast Salish territories known as Vancouver. He has performed across Canada, including 4 seasons at Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival; the feature film Kingsway (TIFF 2018); and appearances on Twilight Zone, Supernatural, and Motive. WIth his band Jeff Gladstone & The Bad Ideas, he has recorded two albums of original music available on all music streaming services. He is the Artistic Director of the International Theatresports Institute, one of the largest improvisation networks in the world.

Cory is an award-winning designer whose set, costume, lighting, and video designs have received both national and international recognition. Cory earned a degree in Architectural Studies from Carleton University before studying design at Ryerson Theatre School. He also holds a MFA in Theatre Design from the University of Alberta. Recent designs include Ring of Fire, Matilda, Once, Shakespeare in Love, Crazy for You, Million Dollar Quartet, Venus in Fur, Romeo and Juliet, Spamalot, The Rocky Horror Show, Evangeline, Peter and the Starcatcher, Mary Poppins, and Next to Normal.

Mishelle is a Vancouver based composer and sound designer whose work is centred around the integration of sound, music, and storytelling. Some recent projects include Good Things To Do - a digital storytelling experience through text and sound; The Quarantettes - a live and recorded project of poetry set to music; and Made in Canada - an EP of vibrant music written using the verbatim words of Latinx migrant farm workers. She had the pleasure of working at the Citadel three times in 2019, and was nominated for a Sterling for Outstanding Music Direction for A Christmas Carol.

Steven is an Edmonton-based music director and actor, with credits that span over 80 productions across Canada. Recent credits include Ring of Fire (Citadel); ‘Max’ in Lend Me a Tenor (Mayfield); The Comedy Company (Shadow); ‘Jerry Lee Lewis’ in Million Dollar Quartet (Arts Club); and ‘Cogsworth’ in Beauty and the Beast (TUTS). He has been an instructor at Studio 58, Capilano University and MacEwan University (his alma mater). Upcoming: Into the Woods (MacEwan), Peter Pan Goes Wrong, and ELVIS (Citadel).

Leigh Ann has designed lights for theatre and dance across Canada. She has designed theatre shows in every province; small scale, large scale, and everything in between. Recently she designed The Neverending Story (Stratford, NAC); The Silver Arrow (Citadel Theatre); The Third Colour (Prairie Theatre Exchange); Secret Life of a Mother (Theatre Centre, Crows Theatre); and The God That Comes (2b). Her work has been seen throughout Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, and the US. Leigh Ann is a teacher and coach at National Theatre School of Canada.
