Macbeth
By WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE
Directed by PETER HINTON
Starring BENEDICT CAMPBELL and DIANE D’AQUILA
Hello Students Club Members,
We are in the middle of a busy time here at the Citadel. While the Students Club installment of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast has drawn to a close, the show will run until March 2. Shining City opens tomorrow in the Rice Theatre and promises to be one of the most intimate and haunting shows we’ve ever done. Further, the crews for both Macbeth and December Man have begun to arrive. This means we have four theatre companies under our roof right now — exciting stuff!
Next up for us is Macbeth. I want to warn you now that I fully intend to throw caution to the wind and start using the word “Macbeth” instead of referring to it as “The Scottish Play” — our preshow chat will be littered with that unlucky name. Personally, I have never given much thought to superstitions, however up until now I’ve chosen to respect the superstitions of others. But after my conversation with the stage manager for the show I’ve become convinced that if you’re doing the show, you have to say it (she actually said it was only bad luck to say it in the dressing room, so there’s yet another permutation of the myth).
Following is the Students Club agenda for Macbeth:
PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL TIMES HAVE BEEN PUSHED BACK HALF AN HOUR
6 PM — Food
For the production of Macbeth we will be meeting in the Zeidler Lobby on all evenings — February 12, 13, 19, 20, 26 and 27.
Food is included in your package. Pop and water will be available for $1.
Remember to bring loonies as we do not keep a lot of change on hand.
6:30 PM — Pre-show Presentation
Fight Choreography
Our special guest for the next round of SC will be Calvin Malaka, and up-and-coming fight choreographer in town. Calvin will show us a few moves and maybe even bring a few volunteers up on stage to demonstrate how to make things look violent while keeping it completely safe. Have no fear; no students will be harmed in the making of this Students Club.
See the Macbeth show page for more information.
7:30 PM — The Performance
Down to the Maclab Theatre to see the show. Run time is approximately two hours and forty minutes.
After the Performance — TALK BACK

BEHIND THE SCENES
This is a co-production with the National Arts Centre – English Theatre in Ottawa. Directed by Peter Hinton, it was well received in the first part of its run.
You will no doubt notice that Mr. Hinton’s interpretation of the witches is unique — he’s cast them all as children. These are the only actors who change between the Ottawa and Edmonton productions of the show; each city is featuring three of its finest young actors. In our case, you may recognize Tim Dowler-Coltman, Shana McInnis, and Monaco Moore from previous Citadel productions such as A Christmas Carol, Oliver!, and The Pillowman!
