A work of romantic fiction, better known as a comedy of manners, Sense & Sensibility is set in southwest England between 1792 and 1797, and portrays the life and loves of Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, sisters who respectively represent the “sense” and “sensibility” of the title. When their father passes away, leaving all his money to his first wife’s son, his second wife and her daughters are left with no permanent home and very little income.
Tom Wood’s highly acclaimed adaptations include A Christmas Carol, The Three Musketeers, Vanya, Pride and Prejudice, Servant of Two Masters and Peter Pan.
