The Citadel Theatre Young Companies offer an advanced training and mentorship program for aspiring artist between the ages of 16-21 who are serious about pursuing post-secondary education and a career in theatre.
In addition to training, members participate in specialized workshops with a variety of leading theatre professionals including members of the Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program. Their training culminates in performances for the Acting and Musical Companies, and staged readings for the Young Playwrights.
The Acting and Musical programs offer regular classes in acting, singing, speech, dance, and movement, and special workshops in things like auditioning, Shakespeare, and stage fighting. The program culminates in a series of performances (a play and a musical) that showcase what the participants have learned over the course of the year. The play and musical are chosen specially for the participants – to give each of them an opportunity to shine – and are directed by local professionals.
