Stamina, Strength and Agility of Body, Mind and Heart
In 2008, the Citadel initiated a partnership with the Banff Centre to create a rigorous advanced training Program designed to develop and enhance the skills of established, mid-career theatre professionals. Now in its fifth year, this Program, conceived by Citadel Theatre Artistic Director Bob Baker, and under the direction of Program Director James MacDonald, provides performers a distinct alternative to other professional theatre training programs in North America.
The curriculum of the Citadel/Banff Centre Professional Theatre Program comprises master classes and workshops in acting, singing, voice, movement, dance, stage combat, text, improvisation, and script analysis directed by a Faculty of some of Canada’s leading theatre artists. Participants take part in group classes, followed by up to six hours per day of individual coaching. There is no age restriction – we encourage applications from well-established artists with extensive careers, as well as from emerging artists with a suggested minimum of three years of professional experience.
The residency for the Program takes place at the Banff Centre and at the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta. This year, following the five-week training period, participants will rehearse and perform Margaret Atwood’s The Penelopiad as part of the Citadel’s 2012-2013 Mainstage Season.
“This Program was of great value to me. I’ve been an actor for more than 15 years, but Bob recognized my need and desire to keep learning and growing, to visit the old and make things new again.” –Réjean Cournoyer Mr. Darcy, Pride and Prejudice; Beast, Disney’s Beauty and The Beast; Sweeney Todd, Sweeney Todd
