PERFORMANCE FOR ITS 50TH ANNIVERSARY SEASON

Performance. Place. Pride.

Those words capture the core themes of the Citadel Theatre’s ENCORE fund-raising campaign, launched September 23rd at a packed reception in the Club at the Citadel.

The campaign goal is to raise $5-Million by the start of the Citadel’s 50th anniversary season in September 2015.

The money will be used in part to renovate the exterior of the Citadel complex with a grand entranceway facing onto Sir Winston Churchill Square, a 3-storey digital marquee, and “light sculpting” and digital displays both inside and outside the building.

The money also will be used to fund new programming initiatives in the Citadel’s performance and development streams.

Maclab Enterprises kick-started the campaign by announcing it is contributing $1-Million to the campaign.

“The campaign goals are threefold,” said Catrin Owen, campaign co-chair and chair of the Citadel’s Board of Directors. “First is to re-imagine the Citadel’s sense of place in the city through an exciting renovation. Secondly, re-state the Citadel’s commitment to great performance, through world-class productions, an array of artistic partnerships and the creative development programs of the Academy. Thirdly, re-ignite the pride that we all have in this great theatre by attracting new audiences and playing our part as central to a healthy arts ecology in Edmonton.”

The campaign is led by co-chairs Catrin Owen and Richard Kirby, supported by Campaign Champion couples Marc de La Bruyère and Stacy Schiff, John and Maggie Mitchell, Ashif and Zainul Mawji, Darren and Laurel Durstling.

“The Citadel Theatre is a cultural community leader, and our facility is a cultural community centre. This 50th Anniversary Campaign is not just a celebration of our fifty year history, but as an encore, to the next fifty years of artistic leadership,” said Citadel Artistic Director Bob Baker. “The next two years are an opportunity for us to raise the funds necessary to enliven the Citadel as a part of a growing, vibrant downtown Edmonton.”
