Introducing two great opportunities for professional development at the Citadel Theatre this Spring! For two weekends in a row we are offering exciting, intensive and relevant workshops open to all performers in Edmonton.
Shakespeare Master Class
| Saturday, May 3, 2008 Sunday, May 4, 2008 |
|
| Taught by: James MacDonald | |
| Cost: $165 / $125 (CAEA discount) | |
An intensive weekend workshop in acting Shakespeare is led by the founding artistic director of the River City Shakespeare Festival. The workshop will focus on unlocking the clues in the text in the process of building a character and in making dynamic, vibrant, emotionally engaged acting choices. An excellent refresher course for emerging or established professional actors with some experience in Shakespearean text.
This season at the Citadel, James directed Fire, Shining City and Vimy. Other Citadel credits include directing Equus, I Am My Own Wife and Stones in his Pockets, and acting in Measure for Measure, Amadeus, Einstein’s Gift (Sterling Award), Wit, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Importance of Being Earnest, Othello, Of Mice and Men (Sterling Award) and (briefly) Noises Off. Elsewhere, James’ directing credits include The Old Ladies for the Shaw Festival, Much Ado about Nothing and As You Like It at CanStage, The Myth of Summer at Alberta Theatre Projects and The Winter’s Tale, The Taming of the Shrew, The Merry Wives of Windsor, King Lear, Julius Caesar and Macbeth at the River City Shakespeare Festival, where he was artistic director for five years.
A native Edmontonian, James is a graduate of the University of Alberta BFA (Acting) program. He is also the Citadel’s Associate Artistic Director.
