Escape with ‘Man in Chair’, an infectiously enthusiastic musical theatre aficionado, as he invites us to enjoy a treasured recording of his favorite 1920s Broadway hit, The Drowsy Chaperone. Get swept away to a less-complicated era of frivolity, fun and fanfare, complete with mistaken identities, gangsters in disguise and multiple spontaneous weddings.

DON McKELLAR visited the Citadel Theatre on Saturday, September 26 to do a Pre-Show Chat with members of the audience before the matinee of The Drowsy Chaperone. Many excited fans of Don’s work on stage and on film were on hand to listen to a live interview and ask questions. Afterwards Mr. McKellar watched this version of his show for the first time, and met the cast backstage. He enjoyed it so much he stayed overnight in Edmonton and visited with the cast later that night. His career began as co-founder of Toronto’s Augusta Company, with whom he co-created six critically acclaimed experimental plays. Since then he has become a ubiquitous presence in the independent Canadian cinema. As screenwriter for the award-winning films Blindness (adapted from the novel by José Saramago); Roadkill (for Bruce McDonald); Highway 61; co-writer of Dance Me Outside; Thirty-Two Short Films About Glenn Gould (with director Francois Girard) and The Red Violin. For TV he wrote and starred in the CBC series Twitch City (which also played on the Bravo Network in America). As an actor he has appeared in films Exotica (directed by Atom Egoyan); eXistenZ (David Cronenberg); When Night is Falling (Patricia Rozema); Clean (Olivier Assays); Waydowntown; The Red Violin; The Event and Monkey Warfare. He was a regular on Slings and Arrows, which played on the Sundance Channel and Showcase. |
