“Vanity, not love, has been my folly.”
A Citadel World Premiere Presentation
This classic tale of love and values unfolds in the class-conscious England of the late eighteenth century. The five Bennet sisters have been raised by their mother to have one purpose in life: finding a husband. When a wealthy bachelor takes up residence in a nearby mansion, the Bennets are abuzz. Among the man’s sophisticated circle of friends, surely there will be no shortage of suitors for the Bennet sisters. But when Elizabeth meets the handsome and — it would seem — snobbish Mr. Darcy, the battle of the sexes is joined.
Wit and fervour abound in Tom Wood’s sparkling new adaptation of one of Jane Austen’s most beloved stories. A gorgeous period romance that will have your heart racing.
“The Pride of the Citadel.” –Colin MacLean, Edmonton Sun
“A show that must, must, must be seen.” –Graham Hicks, Edmonton Sun
“Lizzy ... gets a ravishing performance from Amanda Lisman, who radiates intelligence and heart.
“The show literally revolves ... in Bob Baker’s production, designed and dressed in glorious and lavish period detail by Leslie Frankish and lit, like gorgeous varnished oil paintings, by Bretta Gerecke.
“And in the course of Woods’ adaptation ... Pride and Prejudice becomes delightful and absorbing, and the fortunes of Lizzy, Jane and the rest crucial to us.” –Liz Nicholls, The Edmonton Journal“The perfect blend of youth, romance, passion and manners makes this an ideal choice as the first production of our new partnership with The Banff Centre.” –Bob Baker
