The Citadel Theatre is accepting applications for a part-time, permanent position:

Director of the Foote Theatre School

For over forty years, the Citadel Theatre has operated a theatre school which offers a variety of classes year-round, for all ages, at all stages of ability. Last season the FTS faculty of 25 theatre professionals taught over 1000 students.

The Director of the Foote Theatre School (FTS) is a part-time position of approximately 24 hours per week with work hours that will fluctuate with the activity of the school. The FTS Director reports to the Managing Director and the Artistic Director of the Citadel.

Responsibilities of the FTS Director include:

  • Providing direction and supervision to the FTS Administrator
  • Setting up and conducting Instructor Orientation Meetings as needed
  • Liaising with FTS instructors as a curriculum specialist and in regards to pedagogical-educational concerns with students in class
  • Ongoing evaluation of instructors and programs
  • Developing policies and strategies for the growth of FTS
  • Reviewing scholarship and bursary applications and awarding financial assistance to selected applicants
  • Responding to questions and concerns of parents and teachers
  • Developing and setting up final performances of classes (including technical requirements)

The following duties will be required later in the year in preparation for the 2009/2010 school season:

  • Planning the FTS budget in conjunction with the Managing Director
  • Working with other departments to determine possible programming, funding, marketing or publicity strategies for the school
  • Developing programming and curriculum parameters for all classes and day camps offered at FTS
  • Developing and designing (with the marketing department) the FTS brochures and other marketing materials
  • Hiring instructors for FTS classes and camps as well as required designers, teaching assistants, and other necessary personnel.

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary arts or education training
  • Experience as an arts professional
  • Educational pedagogical training and experience would be an asset
  • Excellent communicator
  • Ability to work well in a busy environment
  • Self-motivated and a team player

Director of Production

The Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Alberta is seeking a Director of Production to join our dynamic team. We are looking for a highly-organized team player who thrives in a fast-paced environment. If you enjoy problem solving and are a strong leader and excellent motivator, we'd like to hear from you. Reporting to the Artistic Director and Executive Director, this is a full-time, year-round position.

The Citadel is a very active, not-for-profit theatre producing a season which includes a Mainstage series of six plays, three shows in the Rice (second-stage) Series, a large scale production for youth and our seasonal production of A Christmas Carol, in its ninth year. We house a vibrant theatre school, an active new play development program and produce an annual teen festival. Our facilities are available for rental by other arts organizations and community groups.

The Citadel houses:

Function/Role:

The Director of Production manages the mounting and running of all productions and facilitates the flow of information between artistic, administrative and production staff. This includes:

  • Preparing and controlling a total production envelope of approximately $4.5 million
  • Hiring production personnel in consultation with the Artistic Director and Executive Director
  • Supervising and managing all production staff
  • Scheduling personnel and space

Qualifications:

  • At least 10 years professional theatre experience
  • Proven proficiency with budgeting and financial tracking
  • Extensive knowledge of production techniques and theatre equipment
  • Experience working with CEAE, IATSE, ADC, etc.

Salary:

  • In the range of $50,000 commensurate with experience

The Citadel Theatre is accepting applications for an

Education and Outreach Coordinator

This is a newly-created position in our Audience and Community Programs department.

It is a full-time position beginning September 2, 2008 and ending June 30, 2009. Benefits are available and there is a possibility of renewal over the summer and/or for the following theatre season.

The position requires a motivated and hard-working self-starter with a keen understanding of theatre practices and a love of educational pursuits.

Qualifications:

  • post-secondary degree or diploma in theatre or drama education, or equivalent experience
  • experience teaching or working with youth preferred
  • exceptional communication and writing skills
  • comfortable speaking in public
  • availability to work evenings and weekends

Responsibilities:

  • liaise and build relationships with local schools and educators to promote Citadel Theatre programs and services (includes both managing in-house school matinees and traveling to communities and schools)
  • program and facilitate Students Club (the Citadel’s subscription and education program for junior and senior high school students)
  • develop educational resources and support materials for the Citadel Theatre’s website and print documents including Study Guides, artist profiles, etc.
  • assist with all other Audience and Community programming as required, including Seniors Club, Club Friday, Talkback Tuesdays, Pre-Show Chats, the Teens @ The Turn Festival, special events, facility tours, and more

Volunteer Coordinator

The Volunteer Coordinator will work with and provide assistance to our team of volunteers and will be responsible for scheduling volunteer shifts, activities, and communications. Working closely with the Front of House Manager, the Volunteer Coordinator will organize volunteer recruitment drives, maintain administrative paper work pertaining to volunteer activities, and work in Front of House as a shift Supervisor.

Candidates for this position must have the following:

  • Excellent communication skills
  • Above-average computer skills
  • Patience and commitment to customer care

Volunteer management training and/or previous experience managing volunteers are assets.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be expected to work a variety of shifts which could include weekdays, weekends, and evenings.

The Foote Theatre School at the Citadel

Teaching assistants for our
2008 Summer Camp program

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing before and after hours supervision.
  • Assisting the instructor with teaching and rehearsal time.
  • Assisting backstage during the Friday afternoon performance.
  • Leading drama game, warm-ups or other activities when necessary.

Summer Camps are offered in all specialities, including musical theatre, acting, play creation and comedy.

Camps run from Monday July 14 to Friday August 8 from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
Candidates must be available for all four weeks. This is a paid position.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • Experience and training in theatre
  • Experience teaching and supervising younger students
  • Excellent organization, leadership and group management skills
