This is an auspicious moment in Canadian professional theatre.
The Citadel Theatre has a distinguished past and a bright future. There is a positive energy among the artists, audience, staff, volunteers and community that gives us confidence and inspires us to be ambitious.
As well as presenting our new 2010–2011 Season of 11 exciting plays in three distinct series, we are proudly announcing the creation of Canada's newest and most comprehensive program for creative development in professional theatre — The Robbins Academy at The Citadel. The Robbins Academy will be home to our Play Development Program; our Professional Theatre Program in partnership with The Banff Centre; our Young Companies for 16 – 21 year olds; our Foote Theatre School; and our Education and Outreach Programs.
The 11 plays in our new season are an intoxicating mix of familiar and new, hilarious and tragic, comforting and provocative, entertaining and enlightening. You will be the first to see two of literature’s greatest classic novels freshly adapted for the stage in their world premiere productions; the most recent Pulitzer and Tony award winning plays; new works by some of Canada’s most cherished playwrights; innovative presentations by internationally acclaimed companies; and celebrate, not one, but two true Canadian heroes.
I have never been more excited to be a part of creating Canadian theatre than I am right now, here with the talented team at The Citadel. I invite you to join us as we enter a decade of new beginnings and inspiring theatrical adventures.
